She holds a Master’s degree in Human Development and has over 30 years of experience in the fields of management, leadership, and organizational development. Coaching Approach
In the past few years Kim Barnes’ coaching practice has focused on two areas: coaching high potential leaders with a need to develop more effective interpersonal skills and developing HR managers and key staff as coaches for their clients.
Kim Barnes describes her work as performance coaching. Literally, this means she works with the client toward achieving excellent results in a series of performance opportunities, similar to the way a coach might work with a top athlete, singer, or actor.
Once a coaching contract has been established, Kim begins her work with individual leaders by using a 360-degree instrument and interviewing individuals identified by the leader as critical to his or her success. The results enable Kim to establish clear performance goals for the coaching process with the leader. She also identifies or creates upcoming performance opportunities that will require the leader to use the skills he or she has decided to focus on with precision and effectiveness.
After the actual performance, Kim debriefs either in person or on the phone, discussing what was learned from the experience, and the next steps to take. This process continues until the goals established at the beginning are met or until a mutual agreement is made to identify new goals or bring the process to a close.
